With just six days left to the end of his tenure, Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State and the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) on Saturday, May 23, 2015 conducted local government elections, with the All Progressives Congress (APC) winning in 22 of the 23 councils.
Elections were not held in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni as the tenure of the officials in the council does not expire until 2016.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) boycotted the elections after it had requested an order from a Federal High Court in Abuja to stop the RSIEC from releasing an updated voters register for the election.
Justice Lambo Akanbi, adjourned the case as an objection had been filed at the Court of Appeal by counsel to RSIEC and the Rivers State Government, Beluolisa Nwafor.
