Detectives have launched a murder probe after a man was beaten to death by a fellow patient while in hospital.
Staff at Rotherham District General Hospital, in South Yorkshire, called police after the brawl broke out between two of the patients.
Officers have arrested a 47-year-old man on suspicion of murder after a 48-year-old man died from his injuries in the early hours of this morning.
Police were called to the hospital at 8.54 pm on Saturday, February 12, 2022, with officers launching a murder investigation.
A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said the man’s family are being supported by specialist officers after yesterday’s tragedy.
They added: “Officers were called by a member of hospital staff at 8.54 pm reporting that two patients had been fighting.
“One of the patients, a 48-year-old man, died of his injuries in the early hours of this morning.
“We are working closely with the hospital and will remain on scene this evening as we conduct enquiries.
“The man’s family has been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

A spokesman for the Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust declined to comment on the situation.
