OSOGBO, Nigeria – Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially completed and commissioned the long-awaited Pa (Oba) Adesoji Aderemi East Bypass, Ring Road in Osogbo, marking the conclusion of a 12-year infrastructural project initially launched under former Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
The road, which is critical in connecting key areas within the Osogbo metropolis, had remained partially completed for over a decade.
Upon assuming office, Governor Adeleke made the completion of the project a top priority, particularly the final two segments that had been left undone.
Key Features of the Project
The bypass is divided into four segments:
- Osogbo/Iwo Road – Osogbo/Gbongan Road
- Osogbo/Gbongan Road – Osogbo/Ilesa Road
- Osogbo/Ilesa Road – Osogbo/Ibokun Road
- Osogbo/Ibokun Road – Osogbo/Ikirun Road
Governor Adeleke’s administration focused on completing the stretch between Osogbo/Ilesa Road and Osogbo/Ibokun Road, as well as Osogbo/Ibokun Road to Osogbo/Ikirun Road.
This newly completed section, spanning 6.0 kilometers, connects the Stadium Roundabout, Oke Baale Roundabout, and Ilesa Garage Roundabout.
The dual carriageway, 19.5 meters wide, includes:
- A 1.2-meter median
- Two 7.8-meter-wide carriageways
- A 1.5-meter shoulder on each side
Modern Enhancements
In addition to its practical design, the road now features solar-powered streetlights for improved safety and visibility, as well as extensive landscaping at all four roundabouts.
These additions underscore the administration’s commitment to combining functionality with aesthetic value.
“This road is a symbol of light and progress for Osun State,” said Governor Adeleke during the commissioning ceremony.
“The completion of this project reflects our dedication to infrastructure development and our promise to deliver on commitments made to the people of Osun.”
A Boost for Osogbo
The completion of the Pa Adesoji Aderemi East Bypass is expected to transform transportation within Osogbo, reducing traffic congestion, facilitating easier commutes, and stimulating economic activity.
Governor Adeleke noted that the road was built to international standards, further enhancing its long-term value to the state.
Dignitaries, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, attended the commissioning event on Wednesday, December 4, 2024.
Engr. Makinde, speaking at the event, praised Governor Adeleke’s leadership in prioritising infrastructure development.
Adeleke expressed gratitude to Makinde for his support and presence at the landmark event.
The road project exemplifies Governor Adeleke’s broader agenda of bringing “Imole” (light) to Osun State.
From infrastructure to energy, the administration has made visible efforts to enhance the state’s development trajectory.
“Residents and commuters in Osogbo now look forward to the benefits of a modern, efficient road network that promises to ease daily travel, bolster local businesses, and uplift the overall quality of life in the state capital,” Rasheed Olawale, a spokesperson to Governor Adeleke, told The Trent.
