The long awaited judgement of the Olympic amputee sprinter, Oscar Pistorius kicks off on Monday, October 13, 2014, ending the murder trial that got the entire world in endless suspense.
Final judgement on Pistorius is expected to be pronounced after another four days of legal premises from both sides before the South African Judge, Thokozile Masipa before his fate shall be finally determined.
The athlete was reported to have shot and killed his girlfriend through a bathroom door on 2013 Valentine’s Day which was followed by a trial in March, a case which was broadcast in its entirety worldwide.
He was cleared of murder and found guilty of manslaughter by Judge Masipa.
Four days’ worth of legal arguments are expected to be put forth before South African judge before Pistorius’ fate is decided.
As the world are curiously expecting what will become of the amputee athlete, there are argument whether may not go to jail due to his disability, remorseful look and being a first time offender, other onlookers considers the severity of the crime and the personality of the deceased
South African model and media top shot, Reeva Steenkamp, who was at the time of her life, Pistorious ‘girlfriend died in the hail of bullets he shot through the bathroom door.
Prosecutors claimed that Oscar had opened fire in anger after the couple argued, while the runner testified that he mistook Steenkamp for an intruder who intended to do him arm.
South Africa’s human right layer, George Bizos, had said said that the probabilities are that the judge will send him to prison for a certain period, but not a very long one.
George Mazarakis, the producer who covers the 24-hour television coverage on television, told Guardian that case was compelling for a number of reasons;
‘Here’s this titan of a human being, part man, part machine, almost a mythical being, and then he has this fall from grace.
‘It came across to me this is a Greek tragedy playing out with two lives indelibly damaged. It was irresistible.’
