Operation Whirl Punch: Nigerian Airforce Destroys Terrorists’ Logistics Base in Kaduna

KADUNA, Nigeria – As part of its ongoing Operation Whirl Punch (OPWP), the Nigerian Air Force, NAF, successfully destroyed a terrorists’ logistics base in Yadi Forest, Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, officials confirmed.

The airstrike, executed on Friday, September 27, 2024, followed credible intelligence reports of terrorist activity in the area.

Group Captain Kabiru Ali, Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information, confirmed the operation in a statement, noting that extensive intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) efforts led to the discovery of a significant terrorist presence and weapons cache in the forest.

The location was reportedly used as a logistical hub for terrorist operations.

“Additional intelligence revealed that the logistics base belonged to the notorious terrorist kingpin, Kadade Gurgu, a close ally of Dogo Gide,” Ali said in his statement to The Trent.

The airstrike was carried out after surveillance confirmed the presence of motorcycles and other equipment typically associated with terrorist activities in the area.

Kadade Gurgu is known to have provided shelter to several notorious terrorists, including those fleeing intensified military operations in neighbouring Sokoto and Zamfara states.

Local informants and independent sources in the region corroborated reports that the logistics base was utterly destroyed during the operation, with scores of terrorists killed in the strike.

Group Captain Ali emphasised that NAF, working alongside ground forces, would maintain dominance in the region through ongoing patrols and targeted operations.

“NAF, in collaboration with surface forces, will continue to dominate the battlespace through extensive situational awareness, constant patrols, and targeted interdiction of bandits’ safe havens within its area of responsibility and neighbouring states,” Ali added.

The airstrike represents another milestone in the Nigerian military’s broader campaign to dismantle terrorist networks and restore peace to northern regions plagued by insurgent activity.
