JALINGO, Nigeria – All Progressives Congress, APC, stakeholders from Taraba South have appealed to President Bola Tinubu in an open letter, requesting consideration of their region for ministerial and other top federal appointments.
The letter, signed on Monday, June 19, 2023, by the Chairman of Taraba APC Youth Forum, Jamilu Bawa, emphasised that Southern Taraba, which had worked diligently for APC’s victory in the state, deserved such appointments.
”Southern Taraba has become the APC zone, where a senator and all the two House of Representatives members were produced. The only APC senator in Taraba was produced from the southern zone, and in the recently concluded presidential elections, the southern zone of Taraba performed optimally for the party,” the letter stated.
The stakeholders congratulated President Tinubu on his electoral victory and expressed their faith in his leadership abilities.
Drawing attention to the key actors behind APC’s performance in the last Presidential and National Assembly elections, the APC youth group mentioned challenges faced by the party in the state, including internal crises and the lack of a presidential rally in Taraba.
Despite these challenges, the group highlighted how APC members in Taraba enthusiastically supported President Tinubu’s candidacy.
Southern Taraba, a predominantly Christian region, remained supportive despite religiously-charged campaigns, hosting the only pre-election campaign rally for Tinubu/Kashim Shettima.
The stakeholders believe that the event, sponsored by prominent figures like Chief David Sabo Kente, Gen. A.T Ibrahim Rtd, Prof Dalhatu Sangari, Chief Ezekiel Irimiya Afukunyo, and others, proved pivotal for the APC in Taraba State.
The letter further pointed out the imbalance in ministerial slots from the APC government since its formation in 2015, stating that the Northern Zone had enjoyed all three ministerial appointments, while the Central Zone had benefited from other federal appointments.
The stakeholders expressed confidence in the President’s commitment to democratic principles and his tradition of rewarding sacrifices, appealing for the President’s consideration of Southern Taraba for ministerial appointments.
