Youths numbering over 200 on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 took over major streets in Akure, the Ondo State capital protesting against the continuous stay in office of the state Deputy Governor, Alhaji Alli Olanusi, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The youths under the aegis of Concerned Ondo State Youths demanded the immediate resignation of the deputy governor or his impeachment from office by the state House of Assembly.
Led by Mr. Akintunde Lawal, the protesting youths marched to the state Government House located at Alagbaka area of Akure where the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Kola Ademujimi addressed them.
The leader of the protesters, Mr. Lawal, in his address said the deputy governor was over ambitious hence his defection to APC, saying: “Olanusi had thought that the APC will have majority in the House of Assembly and later impeach Governor Olusegun Mimiko and thereafter assume the office as the governor of the state.”
He stressed the need for the deputy governor to either resign or be impeached by the House of Assembly.
Addressing the protesters, who carried placards with various inscriptions, Dr. Ademujimi commended the youths for the peaceful nature of their protest and urged them to remain peaceful in the overall interest of the state.
However, when contacted, the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Mr. Daisi Ajayi, refused to comment on the matter.
