The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 suspended 22 members of the party for “gross anti-party activities.”
The main opposition party in Nigeria issued a statement signed by its publicity secretary, Banji Okunomo, saying that the party reached the decision at its State Working Committee meeting held at the party secretariat, in Akure on Tuesday.
The statement reads, “in line with section 57 of the constitution of our great party, and the inherent power conferred on the State Working Committee, the members are suspended from the party with immediate effect for gross anti-party activities.
Some of the members suspended include, former deputy national youth leader of the party, Dennis Alonge, former deputy speaker of the State House of Assembly, Dare Emiola, a former commissioner for environment and former governorship aspirant of the party, Sola Ebiseni, former state chairman of the party, Ebenezer Alabi, the deposed self-acclaimed state chairman of the party, Biyi Poroye, among others.
The suspended members are expected to appear before the disciplinary committee of the party on Monday 5th December.
The suspended members are those who worked with Jimoh Ibrahim to frustrate the chances of the PDP at the November 26 Ondo governorship elections.
