As authorities battle to contain the spread of the mystery illness which has claimed at least 17 lives in Ondo State, the Ogun State government has put in preventive measures to check the spread of the yet-to-be-identified sickness which kills victims within 24 hours.
The Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Olaokun Soyinka has urged all citizens of the state to stay calm as the state’s disease surveillance and emergency response teams have been alerted.
Soyinka further advised resident living in towns close to the Ondo State border to avoid travelling to areas where the disease affected.
He said: “These two teams had maintained close contact with the Ondo State authorities.
“We are monitoring Ogun Waterside Local Government Area closely and are sensitising our border communities to reduce cross-border movements to Ondo State for now.
“Given recent outbreaks, we are aware that the members of the general public may be worried. However, we wish to assure the people of Ogun State that there is no immediate cause for concern.”
