The Ondo State Government on Monday, September 13, 2021, sealed off no fewer than five popular buildings within Akure, the state capital.

The affected buildings were the popular Arowolo Bookshop, NAO Supermarkets, Olukayode building, which are all situated on Oba Adesida road.

Others include Rainbow Furniture at Bye-pass junction, and Salon Mega store along Isikan/Cathedral axis of the state capital.

The five buildings were said to have been sealed off by the Ondo State Waste Management Authority, ODSWMA, due to what was described as their unsanitary and unhygienic practices.

According to the General Manager of ODSWMA, Mrs Ayo Adeyemo, the owners of the five buildings violated environmental laws and failed to comply with the laid down hygienic practices.

While stating that the buildings were sealed off following court order of the court, Adeyemo maintained that the move was part of the ongoing sensitisation and enforcement campaign of the Authority to ensure total compliance with environmental laws of the state and as well prevent possible outbreak of any form of disease.

She revealed that officials of ODSWMA had earlier visited the affected buildings with the owners urged to do the needful but they failed to comply with the warning.
