AKURE, Nigeria – Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has informed the State House of Assembly that he will be taking a 21-day medical leave for health reasons.
During his absence, his duties will be fulfilled by his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who will serve in an acting capacity.
The notification was confirmed by the Speaker of the Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, who announced the receipt of the governor’s letter during a session on Tuesday, June 13, 2023.
In the letter, the governor outlined the duration of his leave and his delegation of power to his deputy.
“The governor has embarked on a 21-day leave for medical treatment abroad starting from June 7, 2023, to July 6, 2023,” Oladiji said.
The Speaker further explained that the leave, which commenced on June 7, 2023, will extend to July 6, 2023, considering the public holidays on June 12, 2023, for Democracy Day and Eid el Kabir on June 28, 2023, and June 29, 2023.
Oladiji described Governor Akeredolu as an advocate for peace and the rule of law and wished him a speedy recovery and a restful vacation.
The reasons for the governor’s medical leave were not detailed in the announcement.
