Ondo Poll: Appeal Court To Deliver Judgement On Ondo PDP Crisis 12 Noon Today

The special panel of the Appeal Court in Abuja sitting on the Ondo People’s Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidacy matter will give judgement by 12 noon on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, The Trent has been told by a source with direct knowledge of the case.

The court has sent a notice to all parties concerned and the court would be giving judgement on the matters before the court on the candidacy of the PDP at the upcoming poll of November 26, and other matters concerning the leadership of the party.

Eyitayo Jegede is challenging the controversial Justice Okon Abang judgement issued on October 14, 2016 which recognised Jimoh Ibrahim as the candidate of the PDP for the governorship of Ondo State.

Ahmed Makarfi, the national chairman of the party’s caretaker committee is also challenging the June 29 judgement of Justice Abang which recognised the Biyi Poroye of the state’s chapter of the PDP as the chairman of the party.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court struck out appeals filed by Biyi Poroye, a self-acclaimed chairman of the People’s Democratic Party Ondo State chapter, challenging the Appeal Court’s powers to sit over the matter and awarded damages to the PDP’s lawyers to be paid by Poroye’s lawyers to the tune of N3 million.

The court also ordered the the Court of Appeal to go ahead with the proceedings on all issues relating to the Ondo People’s Democratic Party PDP governorship candidate tussle.

Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, who presided over the hearing, also struck out ten motions for stay of execution filed against the lower court after Biyi Poroye lawyer announced the withdrawal of all the motions.
