Senate President Bukola Saraki has lampooned the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) for suing him on charges bordering on false declaration of assets.
Speaking via his twitter account, Saraki denied all claims by the CCB, adding that he always declared his assets during all his previous spells in office as governor of Kwara State in 2003 and 2007 and as senator in 2011.
He also queried who directed CCB to file the said charges, since the country dos not currently have an Attorney-General.

My attention has been drawn to allegations making the rounds on the internet that say I have been charged by the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

At this very moment, I have not been served any court process, however, it is important to clear all doubt as a public servant.

Firstly, all the claims contained in the charge sheet are false, incorrect, and untrue.
— Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki (@bukolasaraki) September 16, 2015
Secondly, I have consistently declared my assets as required by law at every point of my public service career; 2015 has been no exception.

Third, that following the processes of the Code of Conduct Bureau, it is odd that it has taken 12years to point out an alleged inconsistency

Verification of assets are done after declarations are submitted to the bureau, hence, its is inexplicable that this case is based on 2003
— Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki (@bukolasaraki) September 16, 2015
I have also submitted asset declarations in 2007, 2011, and recently in 2015, and the CCB never wrote to complain of any inconsistencies

Additionally, Nigerians must also join me in asking: "On whose authority have these charges been filed?"

The Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act clearly state that any prosecution must be authorized by the Attorney General of the Federation
— Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki (@bukolasaraki) September 16, 2015
Given that the nation last had an Attorney General in May 2015, it is clear that the CCB is acting under outside political influence.

As a strong believer in Nigeria's justice system, it is important to seek redress on this malicious and mischievious plot from the courts

When this case comes to the tribunal I will state my case, and cooperate fully with both the tribunal and other relevant government agencies

Clearly, this is another case of desperation to attack me at all costs, given my stance on National issues.

I will continue to remain committed to transparency, accountability, and even higher standards of diligence than those required by the CCB.
