In what is believed to be the funniest occurrence ever, residents of an entire city reportedly got “high” after police operatives burnt three tonnes of confiscated marijuana.
The incident occurred in Indonesia where the use of marijuana is strongly prohibited and defaulters often face severe punishments as bad as getting a jail term of not less than four years.
Tangerang police chief, Sr. Cmr. Riad disclosed that they had confiscated and burnt 1,100 pounds of marijuana which was seized from smugglers by airport customs officials on Monday, February 2, 2015 in Tangerang, 15.5 miles west of Jakarta, the country’s capital.
The pile of 3.3 tons of weed which was worth about $1 million was burned by Palmerah police at their subprecinct office near the City of Tangerang, 15.5 miles west of the capital Jakarta.
According to reports, the police also destroyed crystal methamphetamine, ecstasy pills, and heroin.
It is thought that the large amount of the illegal weed led to the highness on the residents.
It was also learnt that the police all wore masks as precautionary measures to avoid getting high on the smoke from the burning bonfire.
However, residents in nearby towns were not given any such masks, nor any warning that the police were about to burn the giant mountain of herb.
A resident identified only as Deden said, “I got a headache because I wasn’t wearing a mask.”
Funny enough, a journalist who went to report the incident was not left out as he joined the rest of the other residents to get high.
