Must read

Senate President Ahmad Lawan says Nigeria needs more support from the international community to tame security challenges.

The lawmaker made the remark at a meeting with the UK Minister for Africa, James Duddridge, British High Commissioner, Catriona Laing, and other officials in Abuja.

Lawan noted that the government was aware that a lot more must be done to keep Nigerians and their properties safe.

“This the time that all our friends across the world need to support us, give us the kind of support that we need.”

The Senator thanked the British government for its assistance so far and requested additional aid.

“Like Oliver Twist, we will ask for more support in the areas of weapons, training that we have been receiving from you”, Lawan said.

On elections, Lawan told the delegation that work was progressing on the Electoral Amendment Bill.

He disclosed that the lawmakers would pass the bill before the end of June.

In his remarks, Duddridge said his country was interested in the ongoing work on the Electoral Reforms Bill, the Petroleum Industry Bill, among others.
