LAGOS, Nigeria—In an urgent communication issued on June 11, 2024, the Conveners of 281 Obidient Movement support groups, organisations, and Super PACs strongly cautioned members of their movement against associating with Marcel Ngogbehei, whom they describe as a “mercenary of disintegration”.
Ngogbehei, recently appointed by former Labour Party National Chairman Julius Abure as the director of mobilisation and integration, has been declared persona non-grata within the Obidient Movement.
The coalition’s statement warns that any support group or individual within the movement who aligns with Ngogbehei does so “at their own peril.”
“We categorically state that given his tainted history and character, any support group or individual within the Obidient Movement that chooses to associate with Marcel Ngogbehei does so at their own peril,” the statement emphasised.

Background of the Dispute
The controversy began in late May 2024, when Abure announced the creation of an “Obedient Directorate” within the Labour Party, appointing Ngogbehei to lead this new entity.
This move was met with immediate resistance from Peter Obi, the leader of the Obidient Movement, who reiterated the movement’s independence from any political party.
“I categorically state that the Obidient Movement is not a directorate of any particular political party. Any individual or individuals claiming to be leaders of this non-existent directorate are simply not members of the broader Obidient Movement,” Obi declared on June 5, 2024, via his official social media accounts.
Despite Obi’s denunciation, Ngogbehei continued his efforts to integrate the Obidient Movement into the Labour Party’s framework.
His first action as director was to appoint Joseph Maigari to lead the so-called Obidient Harmonisation Committee, a move seen as an overreach by the movement’s leaders.
Ngogbehei’s Controversial History
The statement from the Obidient Movement details Ngogbehei’s controversial past, including his removal from several leadership positions.
According to the statement, he was sacked as the leader of the Coalition of Peter Obi in 2022, expelled from the Peter Obi Support Network (POSN) in the same year, and removed as the campaign coordinator for an Imo State gubernatorial candidate in 2023.
“Marcel’s involvement in the Obidient Movement has been a disgraceful escapade,” the statement asserts, describing him as “a divisive individual of unknown provenance, with a verminous reputation.”
The Movement’s Resolution
The coalition’s leaders are firm in their stance against Ngogbehei, viewing his actions as a deliberate attempt to undermine the movement’s solidarity. They warn that any group or individual aligning with him will face severe consequences, including ostracism from the Obidient Movement.
“Marcel Ngogbehei’s actions are not merely those of a dissenting voice but of a calculated effort to dismantle the solidarity that has been the cornerstone of our movement,” the statement continues. “His machinations serve only to further the interests of those who seek to see us divided and weakened.”
The statement concludes with a call for vigilance and unity among all members of the Obidient Movement, emphasising the non-negotiable nature of their integrity and cohesion.

Warning Against Collaboration with Marcel Ngogbehei – A Paid Agent of Disintegration
Date: June 11, 2024
In light of recent developments and the ongoing attempts to fragment and destabilise our movement, we, the undersigned Conveners of the 280 Obidient Support Groups, Organisations, and Super PACs, issue this urgent and unequivocal warning to all members of the Obidient Movement.
It has come to our attention that Marcel Ngogbehei, a notorious mercenary of disintegration, is actively orchestrating efforts to fracture the unity and strength of the Obidient Movement.
Recently appointed by Julius Abure, the esrtwhile National Chairman of the Labour Party as the director of mobilisation and integration of the party, Marcel has now been declared a persona non-grata in the Obidient Movement.
We categorically state that given his tainted history and character, any support group or individual within the Obidient Movement that chooses to associate with Marcel Ngogbehei does so at their own peril.
Backstory
In late May 2024, Julius Abure, then National Chairman of the Labour Party, announced plans to create an ill-advised “Obedient Directorate” in the party. He appointed the self-proclaimed “Obidient Leader,” Marcel Ngogbehei, to head this dubious creation.
However, on June 5, 2024, our Leader, His Excellency Peter Obi, was unmistakably clear and emphatic in condemning Marcel and his cohorts.
In a statement published on his official social handles, he declared, “I categorically state that the Obidient Movement is not a directorate of any particular political party. Any individual or individuals claiming to be leaders of this non-existent directorate are simply not members of the broader Obidient Movement.”
This pronouncement was a direct and unequivocal repudiation of Marcel and his associates.
Undeterred by this public denouncement, this band of DisObidients brazenly continued with their scheme to subsume the Obidient Movement under the Labour Party.
It is not a mere coincidence that Marcel, an unemployed, UK-based opportunist with a well-documented history of dubious integrity, was handpicked to spearhead this controversial directorate—a move made without any consultation with our esteemed leader.
By his very nature and antecedents, Marcel is a divisive individual of unknown provenance, with a verminous reputation. His track record is replete with demotions and expulsions: sacked as the leader of the Coalition of Peter Obi in 2022, expelled from the Peter Obi Support Network (POSN) in 2022, and removed as the campaign coordinator for an Imo State gubernatorial candidate in 2023. Marcel’s involvement in the Obidient Movement has been a disgraceful escapade.
First Strike, Enough Warning
In his audacious display of disloyalty, Marcel revealed his true intentions immediately after being inaugurated as the new director of the renamed Directorate of Mobilisation and Integration.
His first act was to issue a certificate of appointment to one Joseph Maigari, assigning him the leadership of the so-called Obidient Harmonisation Committee.
One must ask: by what right does a Labour Party official presume to make appointments within the Obidient Movement? The answer is evident: this is a calculated manoeuvre to undermine our Apex Leader, HE Peter Obi, and dismantle his global political structure.
While the combined force of our leader’s statement and the collective will of Obidients worldwide thwarted the initial coup orchestrated by Marcel and Abure, their ambitions remain unquenched, cloaked now in a new guise.
We must remain vigilant and resolute. We cannot allow these subversive actions to fracture our unity and derail our mission. The integrity and cohesion of the Obidient Movement are paramount, and we will not tolerate any attempts to compromise our collective goals.
Our Resolution
Marcel Ngogbehei’s actions are not merely those of a dissenting voice but of a calculated effort to dismantle the solidarity that has been the cornerstone of our movement. His machinations serve only to further the interests of those who seek to see us divided and weakened.
Therefore, any support group or member that chooses to align with Ngogbehei will face severe repercussions, including being ostracised by the Obidient Movement.
Such entities will be deemed DisObidient and treated as rebels against the very ideals we stand for.
Our movement’s integrity and cohesion are paramount, and our unity is non-negotiable.
We will not tolerate any actions that threaten to derail our mission or compromise our collective goals.
Let this serve as a final warning: collaboration with Marcel Ngogbehei is a direct affront to the Obidient Movement and will be met with the strictest measures.
We urge all members to remain vigilant and steadfast in their commitment to our shared vision. Let us stand united against any forces that seek to divide us.
Signed,
