LAGOS, Nigeria – Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has continued to back Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate in the February 25, 2023, presidential election, stating that Obi is the candidate that Nigeria needs for a better future.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had earlier declared the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and current president, Bola Tinubu, as the winner of the election.
This declaration led to legal challenges from opposition parties and their candidates, including the Labour Party and Peter Obi, who questioned the process that led to Tinubu’s victory.
In a recent discussion with media personality on Thursday, June 15, 2023, Chude Jideonwo, Obasanjo insisted that, despite Tinubu’s declared win, Obi still represents the optimal choice for the country.
He stated, “For the Nigeria that I believe we need to have at this point in time, Peter Obi is still the best candidate.”
When asked about his greatest legacy, the former president reflected, “That I came here [earth] and God was immeasurably kind to me and showed His grace on me.”
