A 35-year-old man has been arrested for trying to kidnap two pupils of Family Support Programme Primary and Secondary School, GRA, Katsina.
Mohammed Tukur, the spokesman of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in the state, paraded the suspect on Thursday, August 19, 2021, at the command’s premises.
Officials of the corps, stationed in the school arrested the suspect who is said to be a resident of Ungwar Jangefe.
Tukur informed newsmen that the suspect was about to whisk away the pupils with his tricycle when their father who had come to pick them alerted the operatives of the development.
“During interrogation, the suspect confirmed to us that he was directed to pick the pupils by a man on a motorcycle and gave him the address of where to take them.
“Not knowing that their father was around to pick them up, immediately the father saw them in the tricycle, he stopped him and alerted our operatives; and he was arrested,” Tukur said.
To uncover the suspect’s possible accomplices, the state Commandant, Mohammad Sanusi has given directives to the Intelligence Department to carry out further investigations
“After a full investigation, the suspect will be charged to court for prosecution,” the spokesperson said.
The Commandant advised parents to tread with extra caution when assigning someone to pick their children from school and to warn their wards against following strangers.
He equally advised the school authorities to be more vigilant and ensure that only authorised persons are allowed to pick the children from school.
However, the suspect while responding to questions from journalists said it was a motorcycle rider who rode out of the school premises that directed him to drop the children at a particular area. But he said the man disappeared after he was arrested.
