World No 1 lawn tennis player, Novak Djokovic has won the 2015 US Open Final after beating his Swiss opponent, Roger Federer over four thrilling sets. This is the Serbian’s 10th grand slam title.
In what was the 42nd encounter between them, Djokovic beat Federer after four sets 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 in 3 hours and 20 minutes on Sunday night. They now have 21 wins apiece over the 42 times they have met.
28-year-old Djokovic now has seven titles less than 34-year-old Federer.
Speaking after his US Open victory on Sunday, Djokovic spoke of his admiration for Federer.
“I have to share my admiration for Roger, everything he’s still doing for tennis. It was a tough one tonight. I have a tremendous respect for Roger, an incredible record. Coming on court knowing you are playing against probably the best player in the game adds a little bit more pressure. I knew he was going to be very aggressive. It was a quite incredible evening for me,” the Serbian said.
Federer who was magnanimous in defeat also spoke after the game. Here’s what he said:
“Felt great to be back in a final after six years. I’ve had a wonderful two weeks, very happy with my tennis. I enjoyed it and thought it was a great match. It’s been a good rivalry, maybe not tonight. I think we walk away from it knowing more about our games and more about ourselves.”
