It’s the news that totally floored us; Amaka Igwe died on Monday, April 29, 2014 in Enugu after a brief asthma attack.
Amaka Igwe, 51, was an award-winning and critically acclaimed Nigerian filmmaker and broadcasting executive. Igwe was the owner of Top Radio 90.9 Lagos and Amaka Igwe Studios, and is recognized as one of the second generation filmmakers who pioneered the video film era of Nigerian cinema. She remained a prominent figure in the industry until her death in 2014. (Source)
The 51-year old mother of three had gone to Enugu in company of her husband for a pre-production preparation for a new Igbo soap when the sad incident occurred.
She was one of the most iconic producer in Nollywood, causing an outpour of emotion from Nollywood colleagues and her fans.
Family and friends gathered for a special Service of Songs/Tribute Night in her honor on Monday, June 9th at the Haven Events Centre at GRA Ikeja.
Guests included; Abike Dabiri, RMD, Bukky Ajayi, Wunmi Obe, Olu Jacobs, Onyeka Onwenu, Kunle Bantefa, Ngozi Nwosu, Bimbo Akintola, Nobert and Gloria Young, Patrick and Ireti Doyle, Tony Umez, Kanayo .O. Kanayo, Ego Boyo, Ali Baba, Teju Babyface and a host of others.

Amaka Igwe will be laid to rest at her husband’s home at Ndiuche Arondizuogu in Imo State on Friday, June, 13, 2014.
