The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has joined the growing ranks of those who have come out to condemn the N4000 fee imposed on intending National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to register online, a report by Thisday shows.
The NLC, speaking via its general secretary, Peter Ozo-Eson commended the NYSC for the idea behind the initiative as it reduces the risk of travelling, but condemned the fee as exploitative.
Ozo-Eson said: “As a general rule, any technology that seeks to increase the cost of production is not worth the effort. In this instance we have reason to believe that the on-line registration initiative helps to reduce both administrative and bureaucratic costs, which NYSC had borne all along.
“In the light of the foregoing, the authorities at the NYSC are advised to retrace their steps by way of withdrawing this policy of charging corps members N4,000 for on-line registration,”
