ABUJA, Nigeria – The Acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate disbandment of the Edo State Command police team responsible for the death of a civilian in Ekpoma.
The action was taken in response to the unprofessional conduct of the officers involved, according to a statement issued on Thursday, July 6, 2023, by the Force Headquarters.
The decision to disband the team is a “bold move to address the unprofessional conduct of some Police officers attached to the Edo State Police Command,” the statement read.

It further stated that the action is aimed at regularizing and standardizing police operations within the region and restoring public trust in the police force.

In addition to the disbandment, the officers involved in the incident are currently facing disciplinary charges and administrative procedures.
The action emphasizes the commitment of the IGP to hold officers accountable for their actions, which will not be tolerated within the Nigeria Police Force.
