Days after emerging the first female president of OPEC, Nigeria’s Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke was on Tuesday, December 16, 2014, elected the first female President of Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF).
This development was disclosed on Tuesday, December 16, 2014, via a statement by Ohi Alegbe, the General Manager of Group Public Affairs Division of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), in Abuja.
He disclosed that the announcement was made in Doha, Qatar, at the ongoing 16th Ministerial Conference of the GECF.
Alison-Madueke was represented at the meeting by the Nigerian Ambassador to Qatar, His Excellency Shuaibu Ahmed as she could not make it to the meeting due to engagement in the on-going negotiations to end the oil workers’ strike.
Countries who are members of the forum include: Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya and Nigeria.
Others are: Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, United Arab Emirates and Venezuela. Other countries that enjoy observer-member status of the forum include Kazakhstan, Iraq, the Netherlands, Norway and Oman.
