A Nigerian woman identified as Jennifer Akudihor, on holiday at the United States of America was arrested and charged after she was caught with nearly $2,000 worth of stolen clothes and accessories.
She was caught after a CCTV showed her stealing 66 different items including clothes and accessories, and stuffing them under the stroller and was pushing through the entrance of Macy Oak Park Mall, in Johnson County.
The woman was subsequently arrested by the police.
Akudihor who travelled with three of her children was charged with felony theft and ordered to hand over her passport while the case is pending in court with her bail set at $2,500.
An Overland Park Police Department spokesman, Sgt. Gary Mason, in his report, said: “The officer in the report said that she was very apologetic and remorseful, and that does go a long way, and he put that in the report, so I think it does help in this situation.
“Everybody has a story. There’s always a lot of reasons why people do this, and it’s not for us to decide. It’s up to the courts and the judge to look at her case.”
Mason added that he was not sure what motivated the thefts and whether the items were taken simply because Akudihor didn’t have money to pay for them, according to reports.
“This certainly isn’t the way to go about it. Now she’s going to have some legal problems that she’s going to have to deal with,”Mason concluded.
