Nigerian TikTok Employee Found Dead In Kenya Amid Allegations of Workplace Toxicity

Must read

NAIROBI, Kenya — A Nigerian TikTok content moderator, Ladi Olubunmi Anzaki, was found dead in her apartment in Lower Kabete, Kenya, on Friday, raising concerns over alleged workplace toxicity at her employer, Teleperformance, a subsidiary of TikTok.

According to reports from The Kenyan Daily Post, Olubunmi’s colleagues have accused the company of contributing to her death by fostering a toxic work environment.

One colleague, speaking anonymously, claimed that the company denied her leave and work permit, preventing her from traveling home to Nigeria.

“The deceased is a Nigerian national working as a TikTok content moderator since 2022. As per the contract, she is entitled to a return ticket every year, but she went home only once after begging and crying to the management,” the colleague stated.

“We are blaming Teleperformance because they denied her leave days and a work permit, so she couldn’t go home. She went to the managers crying, but they were videoing her and laughing at her.”

Olubunmi, who had worked for Teleperformance since 2022, had repeatedly pleaded with her managers to allow her to visit her home country, but her requests were allegedly dismissed.

Her colleagues also alleged that the company failed to check on her when she was absent from work on Wednesday, only discovering her death when a colleague visited her apartment on Friday.

CNN journalist Larry Madowo reported that Olubunmi’s family confirmed she had not returned to Nigeria since she began working at Teleperformance.

The circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation, with calls mounting for TikTok and its subcontractor to address allegations of workplace mistreatment.
