A Nigerian student has been reportedly beaten to death by an angry mob for allegedly attempting to rape a woman inside elevator in Malaysia.
The unidentified student committed the act at Flora Damansara apartments of the Middle East country on Wednesday, September 23, 2015.
According to a report by Malayonline, the student had stalked the woman into the lift and attempted to forcefully have carnal knowledge of her when she raised an alarm which attracted several people who rescued her and descended on the culprit, beating him to a pulp before he was rescued by the police but he later gave up the ghost due to the severe injuries he sustained.
A Police Chief, at the Petaling Jaya station, ACP Azmi Abu Kassim, disclosed that the suspect died at the Mutiara Damansara police station an hour after officials took him into custody.
Kassim added that policemen were told the suspect had attempted to rape a woman inside a lift and while waiting to be put in a holding cell in the police station, the suspect was handcuffed and lying on the floor.
He further disclosed that the suspect had injuries on the right side of his head, and had scratch marks on his legs and hand.
Kassim stated: “We received a call from the security manager of the apartment who informed us of the incident. When police arrived at 8.20 pm, the suspect was surrounded by 20 to 30 people and his hands were tied.
“The victim put up a fight and screamed for help as the lift door opened and several men who were in the area caught the suspect.
“The suspect was then taken to the police station at 8.45 pm. He was fine and he even walked into the station accompanied by policemen.
“However, we found him unconscious when one of the officers checked on him. A medical officer examined the suspect and pronounced him dead.
“We are waiting for a post mortem report.”
