The Nigerian Military in the early hours of Saturday, April 4, 2015 released the two Al-Jazeera journalists – Ahmed Idris and Ali Mustapha – who were previously detained in Borno State for allegedly loitering in areas where the Nigerian troops were carrying out counter-insurgency operations.
The pair had sued the Nigerian Army and Army Chief, Kenneth Minimah for allegedly infringing on their fundamental human rights.
It is yet to be ascertained whether their released was occassioned by the court case.
The pair are said to have headed for Abuja from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital
An attempt by Premium Times to get an official statement from Al-Jazeera was proved unsuccessful.
