A reliable defence intelligence source confirmed Sububu’s death to PRNigeria on Thursday, September 12, 2024, stating, “In an aggressive clearance operation yesterday, military troops eliminated the notorious Halilu Sububu and several other bandits in Zamfara last night. Troops also recovered deadly firearms and ammunition, together with motorcycles from the terrorists.”

Halilu Sububu had long terrorized Zamfara state with his violent activities, and military authorities have linked him to several high-profile crimes.

Notably, Sububu was responsible for the killing of a drone pilot and an operative from the Department of State Services (DSS) two months ago, PRNigeria reports.

His criminal operations also included the abduction and murder of numerous civilians in the region.

The military’s operation to eliminate Sububu is part of a broader effort to address the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria’s North West, where banditry, kidnapping, and other violent activities have plagued local communities.

Military Successes in Zamfara

The latest success in neutralizing Sububu adds to recent military efforts aimed at curbing banditry in the region. In addition to eliminating the bandit leader, troops seized firearms, ammunition, and motorcycles used by Sububu’s group in their attacks.

The operation marks a significant victory for the Nigerian military as they continue to carry out clearance operations targeting other criminal elements in Zamfara and neighboring states.

Efforts to restore security in Zamfara state and the broader North West region remain ongoing as authorities and security forces seek to dismantle remaining criminal networks and provide safety for civilians living in the affected areas.
