ABUJA, Nigeria – The stranded Nigerians in Sudan have finally begun their journey back home, as confirmed by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) Chair, Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
The students are being transported to Cairo, Egypt, from where they will continue their journey to Nigeria. Dabiri-Erewa shared the news on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, on her Twitter page, @abikedabiri.
In an effort to streamline the transportation process, the students were assigned to buses based on their states of origin. “For ease of conveying the students, they were put on the buses according to their states of origin,” said Dabiri-Erewa.
Although the exact number of Nigerians departing Sudan is still unclear, the NiDCOM Chair revealed that two more buses were ready to leave from El-Razy University after the first set took off from the International University for Africa.

A video posted by Dabiri-Erewa featured a student speaking in Hausa, which our correspondent translated as, “This is the first of vehicles from the town Sudan to Cairo and to Nigeria. Now they are entering vehicles. These vehicles are for Kaduna, Taraba, and Yobe people. The other cars are for Katsina and Kano. They will be bringing out the vehicle from inside the park. All are Kano people waiting for their vehicles to come. This is what is happening presently in a town in Sudan.”
Dabiri-Erewa concluded by saying, “Our next update, by God’s grace, will be when they arrive at their location. Please put them in prayers.” As the stranded Nigerians make their way home, many well-wishers around the world have joined in offering their support and prayers for a safe journey.
