ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Government has declared Friday, April 21, and Monday, April 24, 2023, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid el-Fitr celebration.
The minister of interior, Rauf Aregbesola, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement by the Permanent Secretary, Dr Shuaib Belgore, obtained on Wednesday, April 19, 2023.
Aregbesola congratulated all Muslims for the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan, urging them to practice the virtues of kindness, love, tolerance, peace, self-denial, sacrifice, and good neighbourliness as exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
He emphasised the importance of maintaining and improving upon the self-restraint, self-denial, and sacrifice that characterized the fasting period.
The minister assured Nigerians of President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to a peaceful transition of government following successful elections and the provision of security for the life and property of every citizen and foreigner in the country.
Aregbesola commended security agencies for their successes in the fight against criminals across Nigeria.
Calling on Nigerians to actively participate in the nation’s security efforts, Aregbesola urged vigilance and reporting of suspicious individuals and activities to the nearest law enforcement agencies.
He emphasised that security is a shared responsibility and encouraged Nigerians to report any suspicious activities or persons to security authorities.
Aregbesola wished all Muslims a happy Eid el-Fitr celebration, praying, “that the peace, blessings and favour of Allah be with you all. Ameen.”
