ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigerian Military dealt a significant blow to Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West Africa Province, ISWAP, as troops attached to Operation HADIN KAI neutralized five terrorists attempting to infiltrate Nigeria from the Cameroon border.
The operation also led to the capture of ten terrorists and the recovery of weapons and logistics.
The operation took place in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, specifically along the Bula Yobe-Darel Jamel route, where intelligence reports indicated that the terrorists had laid an ambush.
The news was disclosed on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja by Major-General ES Buba, the newly appointed Director of Defence Media Operations.
Brigadier-General Abdullahi Ibrahim, representing Major-General Buba, told journalists that arms, weapons, and other logistics, including bags of flour and detergent, were recovered during the operation.
“Troops of Operation HADIN KAI in the Northeast zone of the country have continued to intensify operations against terrorists, including their logistics suppliers and collaborators,” Major-General Buba stated.
He further detailed the events of June 22, 2023, saying, “Following an intelligence report on terrorists crossing from Cameroon to Nigeria, troops laid an ambush along Bula Yobe-Darel Jamel in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State and made contact with the terrorists. Following a firefight, troops neutralized five Boko Haram Terrorists/Islamic State of West Africa Province terrorists and recovered one bag each of flour and detergent.”
In addition to the successful operation, Major-General Buba revealed that a staggering number of 967 terrorists, along with 82 adult males, 354 adult females, and 531 children, surrendered to troops at different locations within the joint area of operations.
This development is a significant stride in Nigeria’s ongoing struggle against terrorism and insurgency in the northeastern region of the country.
The successful neutralization of terrorists attempting to cross into Nigeria from the border with Cameroon also signifies an important step in securing the nation’s borders against international terrorist movements.
