NIgerian Army Replaces Commander Whose Battalion Mutinied In Maiduguri

The authorities of the Nigerian Army on Thursday, May 15, 2014 reacted to the mutiny of some soldiers of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army by instituting a high powered delegation to investigate the occurrence at the headquarters of the Divisions headquarters at Maimalari, Maiduguri in Borno state.

The soldiers mutinied against their general officer commanding, Major General Abubakar Mohammed in an open fire that left his bodyguards and aids wounded.

The wounded soldiers are currently receiving treatment in a military facility in Maiduguri.

Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Kenneth Minimah, has approved the immediate removal of the GoC the 7 Division, Major Gen. Mohammed because of the deep resentment against him among the incensed soldiers and some of their colleagues.

Fact finding team of Military Police investigators left Abuja for Maiduguri on Thursday morning.

The Nigerian Army has appointed Brig. Gen. MY Ibrahim, as the replacement for Mohammed. Ibrahim is said to be appointed in acting capacity because the position is to be occupied by a major general.

It was learnt that Brig. Gen. MY Ibrahim was appointed in acting capacity because the position was meant to be occupied by a major general.

The former GoC was expected to hand over to his successor Ibrahim on Thursday before he returns to Abuja.
