Must read

The Nigerian Army will be recruiting 18,000 recruits to battle mounting security challenges, the Training and Doctrine Command has disclosed.

Stevenson Olabanji, the commander of the Institute, disclosed this while presenting his budget to the Committee on Army on Thursday, November 4, 2021.

Major General Olabanji said the army will commission 3,885 cadets and 18,000 as other ranks.

He also lamented the slashing of his budget by the Ministry of Finance. According to him, the Ministry reduced the budget of the institute to N26.2 billion from the N43.3 billion it proposed.

Olabanji urged the lawmakers to override the Ministry of Finance by approving the N43.3 billion it proposed.

Speaking at the hearing, the Chairman of the Committee, Abdulrasak Namdas, said the committee is committed to funding the Institute.

He said the Army needs to focus on counter-terrorism training, as he urged President Muhammadu Buhari to designate bandits as terrorists.
