Nigeria has insisted that the position of South African government to seize funds raised by Nigerian government to purchase arms was insensitive, illegal and by consequence, a threat to the economic relationship that existed between both countries.
Speaking on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 an official in Nigeria’s National Security Advisor accused South Africa of blocking a legal arms purchase thereby subjecting the entire country to continuous insecurity and fear of the terrorist group whose ambition is to annihilate the total existence of Nigeria’s unity.
He therefore made it known to South African government whose sub-structural economic investments are rigidly established in Nigeria the risk that the country is subjecting her investors into.
Modality of retaliation was not stated but he advised that the government of South Africa responds as a matter of urgency and refund the R63.8miilion or else, there will be a reactionary retaliation against all her investments in Nigeria which includes MTN and DSTV.
The official, pleaded anonymous reported that Pretoria had frozen the cash wired to the South African firm’s account.
“You cannot be making so much money from Nigeria and then turn around and embarrass the people,” he further said.
The official also reported that President Goodluck Jonathan has called South African President, Jacob Zuma to inform him about the purchase prior to the transaction but was surprised that the transaction was still blocked.
