ABUJA, Nigeria — The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has launched a manhunt for the killers of Brigadier General Uwem Harold Udokwere (Rtd), who was tragically killed in his home by suspected armed robbers.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, June 22, 2024, at the Sunshine Homes Estate in Abuja.
According to reports, the armed robbers attacked the estate at approximately 3 a.m. Brigadier General Udokwere was fatally wounded during the attack, which has left the community in shock and mourning.
In response to the incident, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ben Igweh, has ordered an immediate and discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
The announcement was made by FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, in a statement released on Saturday night.
“In response to the tragic and unprecedented attack at Sunshine Homes Estate by armed robbers, resulting in the untimely demise of Brigadier General Uwem Harold Udokwere (rtd.) on June 22, 2024, at approximately 03:00 a.m., the commissioner of police, FCT, CP Ben Igweh has promptly ordered a thorough and discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding this regrettable event,” SP Adeh stated.
The Commissioner of Police has also expressed profound condolences to the bereaved family and assured them, as well as the public, of swift justice.
“Every effort is in conduit to ensure the perpetrators of the atrocious act are apprehended and brought to justice,” CP Igweh said.
Furthermore, CP Igweh reaffirmed the commitment of the FCT Police Command to enhancing the security landscape of the nation’s capital.
He emphasised the need to continually adapt strategies to effectively combat evolving criminal activities.
The attack on Sunshine Homes Estate has raised concerns about the security situation in Abuja. Residents and the general public are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
As the investigation progresses, the police have promised to keep the public informed of any significant developments.
