ABUJA, Nigeria – The federal government of Nigeria has declared Monday, March 31, 2025 and Tuesday, April 1, 2025, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
The announcement was made by Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, in a statement issued on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.
Eid-el-Fitr, a significant festival for Muslims worldwide, marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting, which lasts for 29 or 30 days.
Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, in his message, urged all Muslims to embrace the virtues of self-discipline, compassion, generosity, and peace, emphasizing the importance of love, forgiveness, and solidarity in building a more harmonious society.
He also encouraged Nigerians to pray for the nation’s peace, stability, and prosperity during this festive period, noting that Eid-el-Fitr should inspire unity and cooperation among the people.
The minister further urged citizens to celebrate safely and responsibly, while remembering the less privileged through acts of kindness and charity, in keeping with the true spirit of Ramadan and Eid.
On behalf of the federal government, Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended his heartfelt Eid Mubarak wishes to all Muslim faithful, praying that the blessings of the season bring happiness, success, and fulfillment to everyone.
The public holidays provide an opportunity for Muslims across the country to celebrate the end of their fasting period with family, friends, and the broader community.
