KONTAGORA, Nigeria – In a recent case that has drawn attention in Niger State, Nigeria, a magistrates’ court in Kontagora local government area has ordered the remand of a housewife, Amina Abashe, following a grave accusation of bathing her husband with hot water.
Abashe is charged with causing grievous harm to her husband, Shehu Abdullahi. This incident occurred merely two months after the couple wed.
Abdullahi, a commercial driver, claimed that the attack was the culmination of a dispute regarding Amina’s frequent phone calls with other men.
He further alleged that before resorting to using hot water, Amina had first attempted to stab him.
The case, presented by the police, charges Amina with grievous hurt contrary to Section 245 of the Penal Code.
During the court proceedings, Amina Abashe pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Danladi Marafa, emphasised the severity of Abdullahi’s injuries, noting that he was currently receiving medical treatment at the Kontagora General Hospital.
Marafa requested Amina’s remand in a correctional facility, citing the need to closely monitor the victim’s health condition and to ensure the accused’s security and protection.
Magistrate Khadijah Dauda acceded to the prosecution’s request, ordering Amina’s remand and adjourning the case to April 16 for further hearing.
