The Niger State Police Command has effected the arrest of a five-man gang of suspected bandits that terrorized villages in Rafi Local Government Area of state.
While four members of the gang are currently in the custody of the police, the leader is said to be at large.
Aside, unleashing terror on the communities, they were also involved in cattle rustling in the area
The four suspects were nabbed, according to the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Wasiu Abiodun in Minna by the Operatives of puff adder II attached to Kagara Division.
The four suspected bandits include; Shehu Usman age 21yrs, Idris Ado age 20yrs, Nasiru Dogo a.k.a Badari age 21yrs, Umar Yahaya age 21 yrs, all male of Fulani camp, near Garun-gabas village of Rafi LGA.
He hinged the arrest of the suspects to implement Operation Restore Peace by the command in the state, while acting on credible intelligence last week Monday at about 1700hrs.
“The suspects were intercepted and arrested with two (2) locally fabricated guns while on their way to Garun-gabas market”
“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to some of their cattle rustling escapades at Garun-gabas and Garun-dangana villages and its environs in Rafi LGA,” Abiodun said.
The PRO further stated that the suspects also confessed further that the two (2) locally fabricated guns belong to their gang leader; one Lawal Mumuni who is currently at large.
Adding, “Effort to apprehend the said Lawal is ongoing as the case is under investigation.”
