The leadership of the Niger Delta Self Determination Movement, NDSDM, on behalf of our membership and the peoples of the oil and gas rich Niger Delta region in the South of Nigeria write to congratulate Mr. Donald Trump the President-Elect of the United States of America. The Niger Delta Self Determination Movement is a socio-political group made up of all the ethnic nationalities of the Niger Delta, a region comprised of the political South-South states of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
We congratulate the people of the United State of America who, eight years ago, did what many thought would never happen and voted into the White House an Afro American as President, and again in 2016 have voted into the White House a billionaire businessman as president, confirming that any glass ceiling, at the right time, will be broken. We the multi-ethnic people of the Niger Delta region are encouraged and inspired that despite our diversity, we can strengthen and develop our people and region.
Mr. Donald Trump emergence as President-Elect of the US comes at a time of grave threats to global peace and security, economic devastation in many countries, and renewed agitation of justice and equity across Africa and Nigeria is in the epicenter of these three phenomena. The Niger Delta peoples whose homeland provides the natural resources that keeps Nigeria running are major stakeholders in the future of this West Africa region not neglecting our geographical location in the Gulf of Guinea, and the giant continent of Africa.
The people of the Niger Delta a peace loving people look forward to working with Mr. Donald Trump as you prepare to take over the reign of power in the USA. We are hopeful expectant that a Trump-led American government would prioritize the policies that strengthen the fundamental American values of economic, justice, human rights, political developmental, and environmental justice for all the ethnic nationalities and minorities all over the world.
As peace loving people we believe that the bedrock of peace and development in the world, Africa and Nigeria in particular is in establishing and protecting, without any bias, the rights of all peoples to FREEDOM. The freedom of expression, the freedom of belief, the freedom of religion, and the freedom to chart a future for their children and grandchildren. These are the values America has come to embody.
The promotion of these values around the world is a responsibility that the US has carried for decades and sometimes, sadly, Americans have died to protect.
The NDSDM believe that working with a Trump lead presidency the Niger Delta people can stand up for these values. We hope that the in-coming Republican US government would be disposed to paying attention the trade and investment opportunities that exists in the oil and gas in the most economically viable region of the most populous country in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The NDSDM believes in intellectual and non-violent engagement at every level and on all issues that affects our people and region.
We also believe in the rights of indigenous of the world as enshrined in the United Nations Declarations. We also believe in the readiness of our people to engage in meaningful conversations that would benefit our two countries in the area of Equity, Justice and fairness to all.
Finally we wish Mr. Donald Trump well as he prepares to take on the most challenging and rewarding job of his career. We are hopeful that the policy thrust of the USA, going forward, would stand for Justice and Freedom for all the oppressed minorities of the Niger Delta, Nigeria and the entire world.
The Niger Delta Self Determination Movement look forward to building a robust relationship the Trump-led Republican party and all the people of the United States of America.
Signed
Annkio Briggs
