Nick Cannon Speaks Candidly About His Narcissistic Personality Disorder Diagnosis

Must read

LOS ANGELES, USA — Nick Cannon, the host of The Masked Singer and father of 12, has spoken candidly about his recent diagnosis of narcissistic personality disorder, NPD, admitting he is still learning about the condition.

Cannon revealed the diagnosis earlier this month and discussed his journey of self-discovery during an interview at the Los Angeles Mission’s Thanksgiving celebration.

“I still don’t understand it all the way, but I kind of always wanted to get tested for it,” Cannon, 44, told People magazine. “I did a bunch of tests.”

The Mayo Clinic defines NPD as a condition characterised by an “unreasonably high sense of [one’s] own importance,” a constant need for admiration, and difficulty empathising with others.

A Life of Neurodivergence

Cannon reflected on a lifetime of navigating neurodivergence, revealing that he was previously diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and dyslexia.

“Just knowing that I’m a neurodivergent individual, I kind of always knew,” he said.

Rather than shying away from the diagnosis, Cannon is embracing mental health and therapy as part of his journey.

“I feel like there’s so many labels out there, but it’s like, to be able to embrace it and say, ‘Look, I’m healing. I need help. Show me,’” he said.

“To be able to say I’m an example for others, but also be healing during the self-process works too.”

Revealing His Diagnosis

Cannon first disclosed his NPD diagnosis during the Nov. 8 episode of his Counsel Culture podcast, where he described his efforts to better understand himself and his mental health.

Cannon, who shares 12 children with six different women, has been a frequent advocate for open discussions about mental health.

“I embrace mental health and therapy in such a strong way,” he said, adding that he hopes his openness can inspire others to seek help and self-improvement.

While Cannon acknowledges the challenges associated with his diagnosis, he remains committed to using his platform to promote healing and self-awareness.

“It’s all about growth,” he said.
