OSUMENYI, Anambra State — Former Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairman, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, popularly known as Ikukuoma, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress, APC, and declared his intention to contest the November 8, 2025, governorship election in Anambra State.
The defection and declaration took place on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at Ukachukwu’s country home in Osumenyi, Nnewi South Local Government Area, where he was formally received by the APC Ward 1 Chairman, Ikechukwu Onyeka, and other ward executives.
Speaking to reporters after the event, Ukachukwu said his decision followed “several calls and intense persuasion” from individuals, political movements, and civil society groups, including the Sustenance of Faith in Governance (SOFIG), Ikemba Frontiers, the Ifeanyi Ubah Foundation, 21/21 Movement, Integrity Movement, and Golden Ladies.
“I decided to join the ruling party and contest for the governorship position after calls from concerned individuals and political groups urging me to do so,” he said.
“I am running to sustain the tempo of good governance President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has initiated in Nigeria.”
Ukachukwu, a former member of the House of Representatives representing the Abuja Area Council, said his goal is to “liberate” Anambra State from what he described as mounting challenges under the current All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)-led administration of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo.
“If given the opportunity to govern, I will resolve the issues of insecurity, poverty, hunger, and hardship within three months in office,” he asserted.
“I will run Anambra like a business. Four years is enough for me to make an unforgettable mark.”
He added that his administration would align closely with the federal government and ensure that Anambra’s interests are fully represented in national affairs.
“My administration will align with President Tinubu’s vision of inclusiveness. Everyone residing in Anambra, regardless of political affiliation, tribe, or region, will be part of my government,” he said.
Ukachukwu also called on Anambra residents to continue supporting President Tinubu, urging prayers for the President’s success “for the good of all Nigerians.”
The event concluded with a prayer session for peace and unity in Nigeria, and a moment of silence was observed in memory of the late Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah.
