Nigeria’s former finance minister and world renowned economist, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has taken to Facebook to express pride in her son’s achievement. Uzodinma Iweala is an author whose book, ‘Beast of No Nation‘ has been made into a blockbuster movie starring Hollywood star, Idris Elba.
Beast of No Nation is the story of a young boy, Agu who was forced to become a child soldier in an unnamed West African country. Uzodinma is a Harvard University graduate, an author and a physician.
According to Dr. Okonjo-Iweala’s Facebook post (below), her son, spoke at the White House, the seat of the United States government, at a special screening of the movie, Beast of No Nation, starring Elba.
Elba has won a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his role as a rebel commander in the film. Abraham Attah, who played the role of Agu has won two awards for his outstanding performance. The film has been nominated for over 15 awards since it was first screened in 2015.
Congratulations to my son, Uzodinma Iweala, who spoke at the White House about child soldiers before a special screening of the movie based on his book, Beasts of No Nation.
