The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, is set to meet governors across the country to encourage the state governments to invest in the power sector with the view of enhancing power generation.
According to Today, the government of Benue State has begun attempt to generate about 10 megawatts of electricity for the industrial sector within the state.
The state would invest about $18 million on the project which is in the form of embedded power plant.
Governor Samuel Ortom, on Tuesday, October 4, 2016. approached the NERC to initiate discussions and declared the state’s partnership with Contec Global, as steps taken to actualize the dream.
“We have completed the feasibility study. Based on it, we have 10MW of three units of 3.4MW each. For the moment, it was estimated to cost about $16 million to $18 million, besides other components that we have not included,” he said, adding that gas needed to power the plant would be sourced from Anambra State.
