NDLEA Arrests 70 In Bayelsa

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Bayelsa State has said its men have arrested 70 persons suspected for trafficking illegal drugs in the state.

Speaking to journalists, the State Commander, NDLEA, Mrs. Josephine Obi, said of the 70 suspects, nine were females.

According to report she said the suspects were caught trafficking drugs such as Cocaine, Cannabis Sativa and other psychotropic substances.

She lamented alarming rate of consumption of drugs in Bayelsa, stressing that the development was due to the fact that the state is “neither a producing nor a transit state.”

She said the agency had obtained a total of 18 convictions from the month of January to March, 2015, noting that other suspects were still being prosecuted in court.

Some Military personnel were also reported to have been arrested for drug trafficking
