Sani Zakari, the director, Sergeant-At-Arms Department, National Assembly, NASS, has been involved in a car accident.
The accident occurred along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway at the OLAM Farms axis with the retired senior NAF officer sustaining spinal cord injuries.
The Sergeant-At-Arms was subsequently rushed to a hospital in Abuja, where he is being stabilized.
Vanguard gathered on Sunday, December 11, 2022, that the director is to be flown abroad for treatment because of the seriousness of the accident.
The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao, it was learned, has given directives that everything possible should be done to ensure that Air Commodore Zakari (rtd) is not incapacitated as a result of the accident.
It was further gathered that following the accident, the Nigerian Navy despatched a patrol team to Olam to evacuate the Sargeant-At-Arms to Abuja
The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo is also said to have indicated the Navy’s readiness to support the treatment of the Director in any way necessary.
Speaking to Vanguard on phone, Zakari gave thanks to God for saving his life, and thanked the Chief of Air Staff for his personal show of concern as well as efforts to ensure he is given the best of attention.
He also thanked the Navy for the show of love and support.
His words: “Please help me thank the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Amao. He has done everything to ensure that I am well taken care of.
“The Air Force has been wonderful. Also the Navy has shown great love and support. I can’t thank them enough.”
Air Commodore Zakari, a Safety Engineer and Paratrooper, served as Commander 61 Nigerian Air Force, NAF, Detachment, Warri, Delta state, and Deputy Defence Adviser to China, among several tours of duty while in the Service.
Tragic Tuesday: 37 Burnt To Death In Car Accident Along Maiduguri/Damaturu Road
At least 37 people have been burnt beyond recognition in a road accident that involved two Hummer buses and one golf saloon along Maiduguri/ Damaturu Road very close to Jakana Village.
Zonal Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Zone 12 (Bauchi, Yobe & Borno States), Assistant Corps Marshal Rotimi Adeleye disclosed this to our correspondent in Bauchi on Tuesday, November 22, 2022.
He said: “This is to intimate you of very fatal crashes at about 10:00am today, 22/11/22 that occurred this morning along Maiduguri to Damaturu road very close to a village called JAKANA.
“Three vehicles were involved (2 Hummer Buses and 1 Golf Saloon). So far, 37 people have been confirmed dead, 8 injured and most of them burnt beyond recognition. The FRSC deployed men for the rescue and have also liaised with the Borno State Commissioner of Police to obtain Court Order for the mass burial of the Victims who were burnt beyond recognition.
“The Fire Service were also alerted as one of the 3 Vehicles involved was still burning as of this time. The injured were taken to general hospital Maiduguri and UMTH.
“The Hummer buses were coming in opposite directions. One had a tyre burst and had a headon collision which resulted to fire. The Golf coming behind ran into them with little impact. Excessive over speeding is the major cause. This was very avoidable.”
Police On Hunt For Lagos Man, Akpos, Who Burnt Wife To Death
A man, identified simply as Akpos, is on the run after allegedly burning his wife, Risikat, to death at their residence on Ayide Osolo Street, Divine Estate, in the Ijanikin area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Akpos and Risikat were at their residence when an argument ensued between them.
The argument reportedly degenerated and Akpos, out of annoyance, reached for petrol, poured it on his wife, and set her ablaze.
After perpetrating the crime, Akpos was said to have abandoned the woman for dead and fled the premises.
Some good Samaritans reportedly rushed the victim to a nearby hospital for treatment, as the matter was reported at the Ijanikin Police Station for investigation.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the state Police Public Relations Officer, said Risikat sustained severe burns, adding that she died while receiving treatment in the hospital.
He said, “A case was reported at the Ijanikin Police Station that a woman, Risikat, 48, allegedly had an altercation with her husband and in the process, he poured petrol on his wife and set her ablaze.
“It resulted in serious bodily burns and she was immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment but she died. Efforts are on to arrest the fleeing husband.”
In another development, commercial motorcyclists on Thursday, November 10, 2022, lynched a yet-to-be-identified man for allegedly attempting to steal a motorcycle around Ara Junction, Agric Road, in the Egan area of Igando, Lagos.
Our correspondent learnt that a motorcyclist was heading for a destination when two suspected thieves ambushed him at an area close to the junction.
The suspects were said to have inflicted injuries on the victim, as they dispossessed him of his motorcycle.
The hoodlums were reportedly taking away the motorcycle when some passersby raised the alarm, which attracted the attention of other motorcyclists in the area.
The group gave the suspects a hot chase and caught up with them at Ara Junction, where they descended on them.
The angry motorcyclists were said to have subjected the suspects to jungle justice as one of them was burnt.
Reacting to the incident, the state police spokesperson, Hundeyin, said the corpse had been deposited in a morgue.
“By the time the police got to the scene, everybody had fled,” he added.
