Nasarawa Assembly Passes N110.8 Billion Amended Budget

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has passed the N110.8 billion amended budget of 2022 sent for reconsideration and passage by Governor Abdullahi Sule.

Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Speaker of the House, announced the passage of the budget after the Majority Leader, Alhaji Tanko Tunga, moved the motion at plenary.

The motion was seconded by Abel Bala, the Minority Leader of the House, on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, in Lafia.

The speaker said that the amended budget was necessary in order to strengthen the system and to implement a realistic 2022 budget in the state.

“This is in the best interest of our people and for the overall development of the state.

“A Bill for a law to Authorise the Issuance of the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the State (Appropriation Bill) of the sum of N110,849,954,879.49 only, for the services of Nasarawa State Government for the period of 12 months, commencing from 1st January 2022, ending 31st December 2022, is read for third time and passed.

According to him, N71,770, 512,458.57 only is for recurrent expenditure while N39,079,442,420.92 only is earmarked as capital expenditure.

The speaker appreciated his colleagues for their commitment and determination in ensuring the development of the state.

“I thank you all for your commitment and for your passion for the state.

“I will enjoin you to continue in that spirit; we are doing exactly what our people have sent us to do here,” he said.

The speaker directed the clerk of the House to produce a clean copy of the bill for the governor’s assent.

Earlier, Tunga (APC Awe North), the Majority Leader of the House, moved a motion for the passage of the amended bill into law after he spoke extensively on the need for his colleagues to support its passage considering the benefits it has for the citizens.

Abel Bala (PDP-Nassarawa Eggon West), the Minority Leader of the House, seconded the motion.

The House unanimously passed the amended budget for the governor’s assent.

The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, recalls that Governor Abdullahi Sule presented the 2022 budget proposal of N109.8 billion to the state legislature on December 9, for consideration and approval.

NAN also recalls that on December 22, the Assembly passed N114.3 billion as the 2022 fiscal policy.
