An ailing Rafael Nadal has recorded defeat at the Shanghai Masters after a loss to the Spaniard Feliciano Lopez on a 6-3 7-6(6) aggregate score. The tournament ended in favour of Lopez on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 in the second round, as fourth seed Stan Wawrinka and Kei Nishikori has also been knocked out.
Roger Federer on the other hand has recorded a narrow victory against the Argentina’s Leonardo Mayer as he saved five match points to defeat Mayer on 7-5 3-6 7-6(7).
Novak Djokovic, who is rated as world’s number defended his title as he with a 6-3 6-4 win over Dominic Thiem, while Andy Murray did his struggles to retain a spot at the ATP world tour Finals with his 7-5 6-2 win over Jerzy Janowicz.
Recall that Rafa Nadal has been diagnosed with appendicitis which will require surgery as this was seen as the reason why was clearly not at his best in his recent games.
He confessed that he does not feel perfect while playing but he was sure he would recover in no time
“Nothing that I have to worry about, when you lose a match, it is not the moment to talk about obvious things. I lost. Feli played better than me.”
He however said that he had plans to have the surgery to remove his appendix at the end of the year.
