Nigerian revolutionary musician, Eedris Abdulkareem shocked the audience at the New Afrikaan Shrine; venue of the ongoing Felabration 2015 when he accused the current Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari of killing Fela Anikulapo Kuti in 1976.
“In 1976, na Buhari kill Fela. Na the same old people dey rule us,” Eedris said on stage during the Felabration concert on Friday, October 16.
During Muhammadu Buhari’s time as Nigeria’s Military Head of State, he imprisoned the late afrobeat king over a currency smuggle charge which was considered politically movitivated by many as Fela was a vocal opponent of his regime.
Fela was thrown in jail by Buhari in 1984 and not 1976 as Eedris claimed. Fela Kuti, however, died in August 1997 of HIV/AIDS and not in 1976.
