ABUJA, Nigeria – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has summoned eight former ministers who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The invitations are related to allegations of corruption during their tenure.
According to a report in the Daily Trust on Friday, June 16, 2023, the invitation letters asked the ex-ministers to explain how they spent funds allocated to their respective ministries for certain projects.
These invitations were extended before the suspension of Abdulrasheed Bawa as chairman of the EFCC.
Apart from former Minister of Women’s Affairs, Pauline Tallen, who was summoned last week over an alleged N2 billion fraud related to the African First Lady Peace Mission Project, approximately seven other ex-ministers have also been invited.
Last month, former Minister of Power, Sale Mamman, was detained by the EFCC concerning an alleged N22 billion fraud related to power projects.
Additionally, the immediate past Minister of Police Affairs, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, has reportedly been summoned over the handling of the Police Trust Fund.
Former ministers who were reportedly invited include those of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN; Aviation, Hadi Sirika; and Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq.
As of now, none of the ex-ministers has confirmed receiving an invitation from the EFCC.
