PORT HARCOURT, NIGERIA – Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has alleged that Iyorchia Ayu, the embattled National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), played a crucial role in the emergence of Bola Tinubu as the president-elect of Nigeria.
Umahi made this claim on Monday, March 27, 2023, during the commissioning of the remodelled community secondary school, Okoro nu Odo, in Rivers State.
Umahi was visiting Rivers at the invitation of Governor Nyesom Wike to attend the project commissioning in the state.
The Ebonyi State Governor insisted that Tinubu must be aware of Ayu’s contributions so that he could integrate him into the next administration.
”I want to also thank the suspended chairman of the PDP. He did very well because if he had accepted to resign, it would have been very difficult for the APC,” Umahi is quoted as saying.
“So he is our man, and I commend him very, very well. And I am begging Wike that they should lift the suspension so that he can suspend many more of their leaders.
“We love what he has done, and so we commend him. I think Asiwaju must know that he worked for him and must also integrate him into the next administration,” the Ebonyi governor added.
Ayu’s has been suspended by the Benue chapter of the PDP and he has stepped aside following a court order that says he should stop parading himself as the national chairman of the party.
This latest claim by Governor Umahi may have far-reaching implications for both the PDP and the president-elect’s administration.
